I’ve been meaning to post this for a while now. Dan keeps gently reminding me that I need to post some pics of the new Battery Grip on the 5D MKIII. So here it is in all its glory.
Here’s the setup shot if you’re interested. SB-28 with grid, and YN560 at 1/1 power in a Cheetah Qbox 24” with grid. For some of the shots, I used a piece of white foam core as a reflector opposite the Qbox.
Brian came out to visit for the 4th of July holiday. He flew into LAX and hung out with his old college roommate Matt for a night before I met up with them in Pasadena to make our way up to San Fran to visit our friends Ferd, Kelly, and Anne. Originally Matt and his wife ZZ were coming up with us, but ZZ wasn’t feeling well, so she bailed. This The 7 hour drive up flew right by, when we got to our hotel we only got one room instead of two. I brought an air mattress so we could get a third in there. We met up with Ferd, Kelly, and Anne for drinks and dinner at Pier 23 that night. The food was delicious, and the company was great. I hadn’t seen Ferd in over 6 years. I really never met Kelly…but might have back in the Detroit days. And hadn’t seen Anne since I moved away from Texas. It was good times seeing everyone. We then headed back and Brian came down to Costa Mesa to hang out for a few days. We hit up the beaches to watch girls in bikinis walk around. Then headed down to San Diego on the 4th to visit the Mizutas and hang out with Katie at Pacific Beach. Definitely a fun filled week and a full tour of almost the entire coast of California from North to South.
Went to Shoreline Village in Long Beach, with the Night Photography meetup group. I had been to that area of Long Beach a couple times before to see the Aquarium of the Pacific, but never at night. It was pretty cool, and there as a huge group of photogs that showed up. But things got spread out and people got scattered. In any case, it was fun, and we got some killer shots.
I was asked to take some photos of a newborn for some friends of a friend. He wasn’t super cooperative, but I guess he was a bit old to do some of the cliché baby poses. We worked around it, and came up with some decent photos. I busted out the Cheetah Qbox 24” for some quick E-TTL lighting. It worked like a charm to bring the ambient light to almost complete darkness for the low key shot.
I’m a bit behind on posting to the blog…sorry to all my followers (if there are any)…went down to San Diego for Kien’s second birthday in the beginning of June…yeah, I know I’m a slacker. We went to the Station, which is a train themed bar with an outdoor area and playground for kids. Definitely a parent’s dream. Drink and let your kids play unsupervised in a playpen :) In any case, there was good beer, good food, and of course good friends.
Decided to take photo of all my camera gear, but needed to do it in a non-boring way. I think the results turned out pretty good.
